6. The Hornets Finally Get a Win Over LeBron James

February 3rd, 2016

Heading into 2016, the Hornets had a 23-game losing streak to LeBron that spanned over six years. It was a black cloud that hung over the team as each time they faced James, a loss was inevitable. They finally were able to get the monkey off of their back with a victory at the start of 2016.

It was a 106-97 win at home for the Hornets as they pulled off the upset without Kemba Walker. Charlotte may have gone 1-3 in four total matchups against the Cavs but the one win was something special. It may just have been another regular season win for many teams but for Buzz City, this was something much bigger.

LeBron has been one of the most dominant players in the league for some time and the Hornets’ haven’t been able to overcome his reign. Now that they got a win over him, it gave them confidence and showed that they could compete with the best in the NBA. It’s almost as if that victory signaled Charlotte as a legit team as opposed to a mediocre one.

The Hornets won 48 games in the 2015-16 season but none were bigger than this one over LeBron. It being at home, without Kemba, and against the eventual NBA Champions, made it that much sweeter.
