Buzz City Beat: Zach Lowe Breaks Down the Charlotte Hornets, it Could be Worse
Buzz City Beat is our daily roundup of the latest and best news and stories from around the web surrounding the Charlotte Hornets.
The Charlotte Hornets will be off for a week as the NBA hits the all-star break. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at Zach Lowe breaking down the team, it could be worse for them and their brutal slide down the Eastern Conference standings.
Zach Lowe Breaks Down the Hornets
“Everything folks worried about after Charlotte turned down Boston’s Godfather offer for the Frank Kaminsky pick has come to bear. The Hornets are 7-19 since just before Christmas, and they have one of the bleakest long-term outlooks in the league. That hurts to say.” (ESPN.com)
I hate how right Zach Lowe is. He breaks down the Hornets’ future, Nicolas Batum‘s inability to be a secondary scoring option (and the rest of the team for that matter) and what they should do going forward. Lowe says no big moves and no quick fixes. Keep draft picks and make small moves to build for the future.

Charlotte’s Struggling but it Could be Worse
“But Hornets fans must look at the glass as half full. Despite the lackluster performance of late, all is not lost! Here are a few reasons to stay positive heading into the back half of this disappointing season.” (AmicoHoops.net)
At a glass half full perspective, at least the Hornets aren’t the New York Knicks or the Orlando Magic. They can also avoid the brutal eighth seed and at least they have an All-Star in Kemba Walker. So yes, it could be worse but there were high hopes surrounding Charlotte so it’s a tough pill to swallow for most fans that this team isn’t living up to expectations.
The Team’s Brutal Slide Down the Standings
“The Charlotte Hornets are 5-17 since the calendar turned to 2017. With the team’s starting five signed through the next two seasons, should the front office stay the course or keep the phone lines hot? The Charlotte Hornets were one of the feel-good stories of the 2015-16 season, finishing 48-34 and taking the Miami Heat to seven games in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs.” (HoopsHabit.com)

The Charlotte Hornets’ downfall this season has been a sight to behold. They started off so well and looked to be following the model of their successful season last year. Instead, they have fallen completely fallen flat on their face. Their epic collapse is one of the biggest surprises of the 2016-17 NBA season.
