Buzz City Beat is a daily roundup of the latest and greatest news stories from around the web surrounding the Charlotte Hornets.

All-Star Weekend closed out with Charlotte Hornets‘ point guard Kemba Walker participating in the All-Star Game. Now the team will regroup and get ready for the regular season to start back up. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at the perfect acquisition for the team, the top moments from All-Star Weekend and trade deadline challenges.

Hornets’ Perfect Acquisition

“One thing missing from their formula? A dynamic scoring guard off the bench, a role Jeremy Lin filled admirably last season. With the Hornets light on movable assets—they’re not in position to justify trading a future first-rounder—addressing that void won’t be easy. So why not try to revive combo guard Brandon Knight” (BleacherReport.com)

I’ve ben saying that Brandon Knight would be a perfect fit with the Hornets for some time now. A backup point guard to fill the Jeremy Lin role, whether it be Knight or Lou Williams, is the biggest hole in Charlotte’s roster and their biggest need. The team doesn’t have a lot of moveable assets but if they could find a way to acquire Brandon, it would be a pretty big deal for them this season.

Top Moments of All-Star Weekend

“The two teams traded leads throughout the first half, as Team USA briefly edged ahead in the second half behind strong play from Charlotte Hornets big man Frank Kaminsky, who finished with a team-best 33 points to lead Team USA.”

Even though the moment was about Jamal Murray, it is still exciting to see Kaminsky’s name mentioned. He went off for 33 points with nine made three’s. Other fans might not care that much about Frank’s performance in a meaningless exhibition game but for most Hornets’ fans, it was a welcome sight because of all the open three’s he made as those are the shots he typically misses for Charlotte.

Trade Deadline Challenges

“This makes the trade deadline so important. The team will either needs to make a move to energize their chances or they need to consider moves that would essentially mean giving up on the season to get some future flexibility. Given their lack of assets, the former could be hard.” (OldNorthBanter.com)

While many feel like this trade deadline could be pretty exciting for the Charlotte Hornets but without assets, it might be boring. It isn’t certain that they will move picks and/or players to get better. They could even dump contracts to get worse and open up future flexibility like the article says. Their direction isn’t clear but I think they need to go one way or another and not stand pat.
