Ramon Sessions has been out since early February after having knee surgery but the Charlotte Hornets could get him back by the end of March.

According to NBAstartingLineups.com, Ramon Sessions (knee) is “Expected to be out until at least Mar 26.” The Charlotte Hornets have been without their backup point guard since he went down with a torn meniscus in a game against the Golden State Warriors on February 1st. If this rumor is true, the team will be getting some much-needed depth with his return.

Once the injury was announced, Sessions underwent surgery to repair the torn meniscus in his left knee shortly thereafter. He was initially expected to miss 4-6 weeks once the surgery was completed on February 8th. The March 26th timetable would put him at a few days past the six-week mark.

Even though Ramon manned the backup point guard position when he was healthy, it is unclear if he will get it back once he returns. Brian Roberts filled in for him but has since lost the job to Briante Weber. It has been Weber’s role to lose and he has filled in admirably behind Kemba Walker.

Sessions wasn’t putting up the greatest numbers before getting hurt so Steve Clifford may elect to ride with Briante to close out the season. Even with the timetable, there is still no definite return date for Ramon. Although, a late March/ early April return would fit perfectly into the originally scheduled time frame post-surgery.

The 30-year old averaged 6.2 points per game, 2.6 assists per game and 1.5 rebounds per game before the knee injury. He had played as the backup point guard in all 50 games prior and was averaging 16.2 minutes per game. His numbers were quite underwhelming considering his playing time as he is averaging a career-low in PPG, APG and RPG.

Sessions recently return to practice to participate in some individual drills but he has yet to make an appearance in full-speed, contact drills. With that being said, Ramon is still likely a week or two away because he needs those full practices to get re-acclimated with the team.

The veteran will be looking to end the season on somewhat of a high note because he has a team-option for next year and with his current play to date, it doesn’t look likely that Charlotte will retain him. Especially with the emergence of Briante who is a cheaper, younger and more exciting prospect.

It will be interesting to see when and if Ramon returns. There has been no indication from the team or coaching staff just yet but he is inching his way closer to being back on the court and with the Charlotte Hornets. The more intriguing part will be if Weber keeps the backup role or if Sessions takes it back.
