After a down year filled with injuries, Miles Plumlee is looking to drastically improve and add to his game this summer for the Charlotte Hornets.
Miles Plumlee recently talked about his summer plans with Sam Perley. The Charlotte Hornets big man is looking to focus on adding an outside shot to his game during the offseason. Despite never having a great shooting touch at the NBA level, he remains committed to expanding his skillset.
Taking a look at the full quote, Plumlee said “Bruce [Kreutzer] is phenomenal with the shooting aspect of the game. I’m really excited to put in some work with him. I think he could be the last piece of the puzzle for me. I was a great shooter in high school and it kind of got away from me. I really think he can help add that element to my game.”
It isn’t realistic to think that Miles will be knocking down three’s next season after never making or attempting a shot from deep in his NBA career to this point. Although if he is truly committed to adding that aspect to his game, we can expect him to space the court a bit a make more midrange jumpers going forward.

Taking a close look at the numbers, Plumlee only took one midrange shot this year for Charlotte and he missed that attempt. In previous seasons, the 28-year old was actually a decent shooter outside of the paint and inside of the arc. Over the course of his NBA career, he has shot 44-142 (30.9%) from midrange. (NBA.com)
His best year came during the 2015-16 season with the Milwaukee Bucks as Miles managed to shoot 11-21 (52.4%). (NBA.com) Despite never being overly consistent with his outside shot, the ability to be effective from that range is there. Adding a midrange shot would not only help his game individually but it would also help spread the floor for Kemba Walker and company.
Expect him to shoot a lot more outside shots next season after only attempting one this year with the Hornets. Even in the later stages of his career, Plumlee is still looking to not only get better but add to his game. It will be interesting to see if his work this summer pays off as you don’t typically see older players take a big step forward and add aspects to their repertoire.

Not only is he looking to add a midrange jumper but Miles also wants to work a lot with his teammates during this offseason in an attempt to get better. His words should encourage fans but we will have to wait to see if he actually puts in the work and how much of an improvement he makes this summer.
