The NBA Draft Lottery held to form for the Charlotte Hornets as they drew the 11th overall pick for the upcoming 2017 draft.

Now that the 2017 Draft Lottery is complete, the order is set for the top 14 picks in the upcoming draft. The Charlotte Hornets will select 11th overall. The Boston Celtics drew the top pick while they were followed by the Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Before the lottery took place, the Hornets had a 0.8% chance of getting the first overall pick and a 2.9% chance of landing in the top three. They also had a small chance to move down with a 6.3% chance of selecting 12th and 0.1% chance of drawing 14th. Instead, the 90.7% chance they had of getting the 11th pick held true.

If they keep the pick, this will be the first time in franchise history that the Hornets will select at #11. It will also be Charlotte’s 20th total lottery pick and the team’s first since 2015. Since basketball returned to the Queen City in 2004, the team has made 13 lottery picks and only one of those players ended up becoming an All-Star (Kemba Walker). (Basketball-Reference.com)

This will be their 12th time in the lottery in the past 14 years. Only three times before have the Hornets moved up from their originally projected spot in the lottery (1991, 1992, 1999). On the other hand, they have fallen in the lottery a total of six times while remaining in their original spot on seven occasions. (RealGM.com)

Just looking back at some recent drafts, the 11th pick has produced some quality players like Domantas Sabonis, Myles Turner and Klay Thompson. Maybe Charlotte will be able to find a similar gem in the draft this summer. With the loaded 2017 draft class, that is very possible. It will all depend on which players are still on the board once they pick.

There were few surprises during the lottery this year. The Sixers move up from fourth to third while the Suns dropped from second to fourth. Other than that, everything else held to form for the other teams in the lottery.

Next: Potential Second Round Draft Prospects

Zach Collins, Frank Ntilikina, Donovan Mitchell, OG Anunoby and Justin Jackson are all possible draft prospects for the Charlotte Hornets at the 11th pick. It will be interesting to see who they go after on June June 22nd. Until then, we wait and see who the team brings in for workouts.
