One player the Charlotte Hornets will host during pre-draft workouts is combo guard Derrick White from the University of Colorado Boulder.

According to Philly.com, Derrick White is scheduled to workout for the Charlotte Hornets before the NBA Draft. The team’s pre-draft workouts are set to begin about a week into June. With the NBA Draft quickly approaching (June 22nd), the Queen City will be one of the last stops on White’s list.

The combo guard has already worked out for the Indiana Pacers, the Milwaukee Bucks, the San Antonio Spurs, the Orlando Magic, the New York Knicks and most recently the Philadelphia 76ers. Aside from the Hornets, he is also scheduled to workout with the New Orleans Pelicans and the Utah Jazz before the draft.

Draftexpress.com projects White to be selected 33rd overall by the Orlando Magic. Most sites expect Derrick to go somewhere in the second round. It isn’t quite clear how high or how low but there is a good chance that it is earlier in the round rather than later. Charlotte holds the 41st selection so there is a possibility that he could fall to them.

More from Swarm and Sting

During his senior year under Tad Boyle, White averaged 18.3 points per game, 4.3 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.2 steals. He also managed to shoot 57% from inside the arc, 40.1% from three and 80.5% from the free throw line. The Colorado native led his team in scoring, assists and steals while being second in blocks and fourth in rebounding.

At the NBA Draft Combine in May, White measured in at 6’4 ½” and 190 pounds with a 6’7½” wingspan and 8’5½” standing reach. He also recorded 35.5″ no step vertical and a 36.5″ max vertical jump. According to Julian Applebome, Derrick’s physical measurements resemble that of Jerian Grant and his athletic measurements compare to that of Mike Conley.

White is now the second draft prospect that has been named who will workout with the Hornets prior to the draft. The other being P.J. Dozier out of the University of South Carolina. More names will surely come out once their pre-draft workouts actually get underway.

White is a name to keep an eye on during the second round as he would add shooting which the Hornets need. Steve Clifford values versatility and him being a combo guard helps his case. If he impresses, Charlotte could very well take him at No. 41.
