The Charlotte Hornets’ pre-draft workouts are in full swing and Jamel Artis will be another prospect to audition for the team.

According to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders, “Jamel Artis (Pittsburgh) has workouts lined up with the Hornets on Wednesday. (6/14)” He will likely join a number of other prospects during the workout as the Charlotte Hornets have only scouted players in groups of six. The small forward will be a part of the team’s fifth pre-draft workout.

In DraftExpress.com‘s latest mock, they have the 24-year old going undrafted. Although, he is ranked as the 28th overall senior in this draft class and the 37th overall prospect out of the ACC. While there is an outside shot that he gets drafted in the second round, it is more likely that he gets picked up as an undrafted free agent.

Artis measured in at 6’6¾” with a 6’10 wingspan at the NBA Draft Combine. He also recorded a 23.5″ no step vertical and a 31″ max vertical jump. In one scrimmage game at the Combine, Jamel failed to score and only shot once in just over 22 minutes of game time. Despite that poor showing, is still getting second looks by multiple NBA teams.

More from Swarm and Sting

During his senior season at PITT, the Baltimore native averaged 18.2 points per game, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He also managed to shoot 54.5% from two and 39.2% from three. Artis finished second on the team in scoring, second in rebounds and first in assists despite being a forward. That speaks to his vision and ability to create for his teammates.

Jamel has already met with the Washington Wizards, the Los Angeles Lakers, the New York Knicks and the Sacramento Kings. Along with Charlotte, he is also scheduled to meet with the Brooklyn Nets. Even though he is projected to go undrafted, it looks like plenty of teams has him on their radar.

If the Hornets like what they see from Artis, their best bet is to try to sign him to a short-term deal after the draft and bring him into their summer league team. If that goes well, they could put him on their training camp roster. Best case scenario, I see him playing in the D-League or as a deep bench player in the NBA next year.

Next: Charlotte should seriously consider drafting Luke Kennard

The Charlotte Hornets have already worked out a number of prospects and more are likely to come before the 2017 NBA Draft on June 22nd with Jamel being among them. The team should release more news about their future workouts and how a video about how Artis faired in his audition.
