5. Harry Giles

Some will argue that Charlotte needs to swing for the fences and take a big risk on a prospect with loads of potential. While that may be a good idea, Giles isn’t the player that they should do that with. Sure he was the projected first overall pick before this past college season but after multiple knee injuries, the Hornets can’t afford to invest the 11th pick on him.

Tom Sorenson of the CharlotteObserver.com has made a case for Giles on multiple occasions. Even Blacher Report has as well. While the risk may be worth the reward, Charlotte’s made way to many risks that haven’t paid off in the past to attempt another long shot like this.

The 6’11 big man is extremely versatile but he was only limited to 26 games during his lone year at Duke where he averaged 3.9 points per game. He is moving up draft boards due to his knee being 100% healthy but the North Carolina native just doesn’t seem like a good fit with the team.

Considering that the Hornets aren’t going to bring him in for a pre-draft workout, it is highly unlikely that they will pick him. Maybe Giles will stay healthy and pan out but Charlotte can’t count on that.

Now that we’ve covered who the Charlotte Hornets shouldn’t select. My vote for who they should pick goes to Donovan Mitchell.
