2016-2017 Shooting Stats: 40.3% FG/ 33.3% 3P/ 85.6% FT
2016-2017 Averages: 15.1 PPG, 5.9 APG, 6.2 RPG, 34.0 MPG
Accomplishments: 1x Player of the Week
Although Batum’s numbers were slightly up last year compared to the 2015-16 season, his efficiency was down. He has the second-worst percentages in his nine-year NBA career from the field and from three. After getting that massive contract last summer, most were expecting more from Nic.
With that being said, he was still the Hornets’ second best player and arguably one of the most underrated players in the league. The France international was one of only six NBA players to averaged 15+ PPG, 5+ APG and 6+ RPG. The other five included Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jimmy Butler, LeBron James, James Harden and Russell Westbrook.
It is unlikely that Nicolas will ever be an all-star but if he can continue to put up consistent stats across the board, then he will be a valuable piece for Charlotte. Considering that he started all 77 games that he played in last year, he is a lock to be the starting shooting guard next season. Steve Clifford loves playing Kemba and Nic together as both can handle the ball and create.
