Accomplishments: All-Rookie Second Team (2005-06)
Although Williams’ scoring and shooting stats were slightly down, he was still the defensive leader for the Hornets. He also managed to turn things up towards the end of the season which is a good sign for him heading into the 2017 campaign. The main problem with Marvin is that he’s not getting any younger and it will become tougher and tougher for him to keep up with the athleticism and strength of younger players.
With that being said, I still think he has a couple good years left in him. The former first round pick is still the team’s best power forward and he continues to prove that he is a valuable role player. He’s found a home in Charlotte and his hard nose, hustle play is still an important factor for the Hornets.
We may be closer than ever to Frank Kaminsky potentially being better than Marvin and talk of him replacing Williams in the starting lineup has already begun. Until Kaminsky is no longer a liability on the defensive end, he will continue to come off of the bench with Marvin as the starting power forward. After starting all 76 games he appeared in last season, it is safe to say that Steve Clifford will continue to ride the versatile stretch four.
