The Charlotte Hornets’ top draft selection joined CP3 and a few other NBA players in North Carolina for a group workout.

Malik Monk recently worked out at CP3’s basketball academy with Chris Paul, Elfrid Payton, Donovan Mitchell and Harry Giles. The Charlotte Hornets‘ first round pick got a chance to train with one of the best point guards in NBA history, a starting caliber PG and two fellow rookies.

CP3’s basketball camp took place in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After missing the Orlando Pro Summer League with a sprained ankle, Malik has since been fully cleared and is now participating in workouts this offseason. He is gearing up for training camp and preseason with Charlotte in late September.

This is an encouraging sign for Monk and the Hornets. Not only is he healthy enough to work out with top level players but he also is learning from one of the best point guards in the league. Steve Clifford has hinted at Malik playing more of a combo guard role and experimenting with him playing the point at times during his rookie season.

More from Swarm and Sting

Even if it is in the most limited fashion possible, Monk surely learned something from Paul during the camp. While Payton isn’t a star, he has been the Orlando Magic’s starting point guard for the past three seasons. As for Mitchell and Giles, both were first round picks and highly touted prospects, like Malik was, coming out of college this year.

Hopefully, some of Chris’ point guard skills rubbed off on Monk as he looks to make a big impact with the Hornets during his first year in the NBA. If he plays the role we expect and handles the ball a majority of the time for the second unit, this would a good opportunity for the Kentucky product.

Tate Frazier also added that UNC point guard Joel Berry II was there.

Charlotte’s second round pick, Dwayne Bacon, has also been busy this summer. He worked out with San Antonio Spurs’ forward, Rudy Gay. (Twitter.com)
