Hornets’ promote Stephen Silas to associate head coach (NBA.com)

"Charlotte Hornets General Manager Rich Cho announced today that the team has promoted Stephen Silas to associate head coach and has hired Eddie Jordan as an assistant coach."

After former associate head coach, Patrick Ewing, left to coach Georgetown mid-season, it was only a matter of time until Stephen Silas was announced as the new second in command behind Steve Clifford. The Eddie Jordan hiring was finally officially announced after it was reported on September 1st. The Jordan hiring replaces former Hornets’ assistant coach, Bob Weiss, who left for the Denver Nuggets this summer.

Silas is regarded as one of the top assistants in the NBA and has gotten multiple looks at potentially being a head coach in the league one day. Charlotte should try to retain him for as long as possible. The team also announced that Rick Higgins is being promoted and Cam Twiss has been moved up to the Greensboro Swarm’s GM while David Kaplan, Adam Filippi and Jakub Kudlacek were promoted, moved and hired.

Training camp to begin on September 26th (Twitter/ @PeteGuelli)

"Training Camp officially opens Tuesday September 26th. Here we go! #BuzzCity"

After a long offseason, Hornets’ basketball is almost back. We’ve gone through the draft, free agency, summer league and a couple months of rumors. All of Charlotte’s returning and new players will be present on September 26th as the team will start preparing for the 2017-18 NBA season.

Only a few days after camp gets underway, the Hornets will travel to Boston to take on the Celtics (October 2nd) in their first preseason game and it will be televised on NBATV. That’s only one of their five preseason games this year. Their fourth overall preseason game and their second one against the Celtics on October 11th will be nationally televised on ESPN.

Charlotte needs Malik Monk to be good right away (BleacherReport.com)

"He shouldn’t be quarterbacking the Hornets without another buffer—like Batum—but he’s a smooth operator off the bounce, and his hesitation dribbles have a gravitational pull. That on-ball fluidity might make him a quick learner as a pick-and-roll trigger man and transition disher."

Next: What is Monk's true ceiling and pro comparison?

This article highlights how bad MCW and Nicolas Batum have been as primary ball handlers. If Monk can come in and make a positive impact on the offensive end right out of the block, it would be huge for Charlotte. Hopefully, Mali’s ankle is healed and he can be the explosive sixth man they’ve needed since Jeremy Lin left.
