3. Point guard depth could be tested

The Charlotte Hornets point guard depth may be tested at the start of the regular season. Michael Carter-Williams is still recovering from a procedure that he had on both knees over the summer while Julyan Stone has a minor groin injury. MCW still hasn’t been cleared for full contact so his status is unclear.

For Stone, he is fully practicing but hearing that he even has an insignificant injury is a bit concerning. We’ll have to wait and see if Julyan plays in the preseason to see if he’ll be ready to backup Kemba. He may get plenty of minutes and be called upon sooner than he thought if Carter-Williams is out to begin the year.

Malik Monk could take over the backup point guard spot if needed. Keep an eye on Marcus Paige as he is one of Charlotte’s two-way players. He will play most of the season in the G-League with the Greensboro Swarm but he is allowed to spend 45 days on the Hornets’ NBA roster so he could be another option if both MCW and Stone are out.
