Buzz City Beat is Swarm and Sting’s one stop for the latest news and stories from around the web about the Charlotte Hornets.
After being limited in practice on the second day of training camp, Dwight Howard has returned to being a full participant joining Malik Monk who is still recovering from an ankle injury. (Hornets PR) In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at the Charlotte Hornets‘ odds to win the East, the work Jeremy Lamb put in this offseason and Tyrell Corbin joining the G-League.
Hornets’ odds to win the Eastern Conference (Twitter/ @ArashMarkazi)
"The Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets and Pelicans are all tied at 66/1 odds after the top five teams in the West."
Charlotte has 100/1 odds of winning the Eastern Conference. That puts them with the ninth-best odds behind Cleveland (2/3), Boston (9/4), Washington (12/1), Milwaukee (16/1), Philadelphia (20/1), Toronto (22/1), Miami (28/1) and Detroit (75/1). It’s a bit surprising to see the 76ers, Heat and Pistons all with better odds than the Hornets considering they all missed the playoffs last year.
Even though the conference as a whole got weaker this offseason, it’s still super unlikely that Charlotte wins the East. Still, their odds should at least match those of Philadelphia, Miami and Detroit. The Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic are tied for the worst odds at 500/1.
Jeremy Lamb talks about the work he put in this summer (Twitter/ @Hornets)
We’ve heard Steve Clifford talk about how good Lamb has looked this offseason but now we get a chance to hear it from Kemba Walker and Stephen Silas as well. Jeremy also talked about the areas that he improved on with most of them being defense and strength but he also tried to work on some areas of his offense. Everyone seems to be taking notice of the jump the 25-year old is making heading into his sixth NBA season.
Credit to the former UCONN Husky for taking it upon himself to get better this summer. Lamb sounds more mature. With Malik Monk and Dwayne Bacon now on the roster, it will be important for Jeremy to have a strong season on both ends of the floor in order to secure his role on the team going forward.

Tyrell, who is the son of former NBA player, Utah Jazz head coach and current Phoenix Suns‘ assistant Tyrone Corbin, joined the Hornets’ summer league team this offseason after playing the past couple years overseas. Here’s an article we did highlighting Corbin. Maybe he will be a draft option for the Greensboro Swarm now that he’s in the G-League.
