Charlotte Hornets: Five players to watch during preseason
3. Dwayne Bacon
The biggest knock on the Hornets’ second-round pick was his lack of an outside shot but after winning the team’s three-point shootout during their open practice, he liked right at home from beyond the arc, knocking down shots with ease and consistency. Maybe that is a glimpse of things to come during the preseason.
With Malik Monk out for the summer league, Bacon took center stage and made a name for himself by averaging 15.4 points per game, 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 41.8% from the field and 100% (19-19) from the free throw line. After those performances, Dwayne is looking to continue that success into the preseason where he could end up earning himself playing time in the regular season.
Even though Charlotte has a number of wing players ahead of the Florida State product, namely Jeremy Lamb and Treveon Graham, there is an outside shot that he could sneak into the rotation. Considering that he’s towards the tail end of the bench, expect Bacon to get plenty of minutes in the preseason which means he will get even more time to prove himself.
Even if he does spend most of the year in he G-league with the Greensboro Swarm, this is a chance for Dwayne to show off his talents against NBA players.
