Buzz City Beat is Swarm and Sting’s one stop for the best articles from around the internet surrounding the Charlotte Hornets.

Malik Monk donated Nike basketball shoes to both the boys and girls basketball teams at his former high school in Arkansas. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at the Charlotte Hornets‘ preseason finale against the Dallas Mavericks, NBA players noticing Malik Monk and Michael Jordan‘s take on super teams.

"The Charlotte Hornets could use a feel good victory after a 1-3 preseason record. In a loss to the Boston Celtics, the Hornets shot 42 percent from the field and made 13 threes. Malik Monk led the Hornets with 21 points and six rebounds while Kemba Walker had 12 points and six assists."

This will be Charlotte’s final preseason game this year. That means it will be the last chance for players to make their impression on the team and coaching staff. It will be interesting to see if Dwayne Bacon can continue his strong play and maybe earn meaningful minutes during the regular season.

Frank Kaminsky, Kemba Walker and other Hornets’ players could use good games to close out the preseason and gain some confidence heading into opening night. Most of the roster spots are already taken up but a couple of them are still up for grabs and a player could lock one up with a good game versus Dallas. Maybe Isaiah Hicks and Luke Petrasek will make their debuts.

NBA players take notice of Malik Monk’s stellar play (Twitter)

"Jamal Crawford: “I see you @AhmadMonk !” Harry Giles: “I see you my g @AhmadMonk 💯💯”"

After three straight games of scoring 19+ points and a career-high 21 points against the Celtics on ESPN, NBA players started noticing how well Monk is playing for Charlotte. Crawford is one of the best bench scorers and sixth men in the league. In some ways, Malik and Jamal have similar styles of play with their great shot making ability.

Fellow rookie, Harry Giles, also mentioned Monk on Twitter. The Sacramento Kings‘ big man was also selected in the first round but has yet to play a game due to knee injuries that will keep him out until at least January. The two didn’t meet in college but did face off in 2015 while in high school. At some point, they should go against each other in the pros.

MJ’s take on “super teams” (SI.com)

"“I think it’s going to hurt the overall aspect of the league from a competitive standpoint,” Jordan told Cigar Aficionado for its 25th anniversary issue. “You’re going to have one or two teams that are going to be great, and another 28 teams that are going to be garbage. Or they’re going to have a tough time surviving in the business environment.”"

While what Jordan is saying is probably true, it must be a bit disheartening to hear that if you are a Hornets’ player as your owner is saying that you have no shot to win a championship. Even if that is the case for 28 teams, it’s strange to here an NBA owner talk out against super teams as MJ is the first to do so. Making a more competitive field might be better for the league but it’s hard to see any major changes being made to make that happen.
