Hornets vs Knicks preview and prediction (RealSport101.com)
"This is a game where the Knicks could again apply their most recent lessons learned in winning without Porzingis here if Beasley is again a capable understudy. If Porzingis plays, it’s only a positive as New York claim a 102-92 victory."
Before the season started, not many would’ve predicted that New York would be 16-13 and in the sixth seed while Charlotte is 10-19 with the third worst record in the East but here we are. Although the Knicks have won four straight, they are only 2-8 on the road this season. The Hornets are riding a three-game losing streak coming into this one but they do have a fairly good home record at 8-8.
In their previous meeting this season, the Knicks defeated the Hornets, 118-113, in NY. While I think New York will win this game, Charlotte’s backs are against the wall and they desperately need a victory. If the Hornets lose this game, their losing streak might not end until the new year as their upcoming schedule is pretty tough with two games vs. Milwaukee, one against Golden State, a meeting with Boston and a trip out west to face the Clippers.
Charlotte should retire Muggsy Bogues’ jersey (BleacherReport.com)
"Ergo, these Hornets have the power to view Bogues, Dell Curry, Larry Johnson, Glen Rice, et al. as their own. And should they be open to giving Bobby Phills (R.I.P.) an inanimate friend before Kemba Walker calls it quits, Bogues has to be the top choice."
In truth, Bogues, Curry, Johnson and Rice could all make a case for having their jerseys retired by the Hornets. After all this time, it’s unlikely that the franchise will retire Muggsy’s jersey but based on all of the records he set with the team, he’s deserving of the honor. Although it may seem a bit late as Bogues retired over 15 years ago, it’s better late than never.
If Charlotte doesn’t retire Muggsy’s #1 jersey, it’s unlikely that Curry’s #30 or Johnson’s #2 ever gets hung in the rafters. If Kemba Walker stays with the Hornets until his retirement or at least until he breaks some more team records, his #15 will most likely be retired. Still, the team should celebrate their past and pay homage to their greats like Bogues, Dell Curry, Larry Johnson and Glen Rice.
Could MJ buy the Carolina Panthers? (Forbes.com)
"MJ is worth an estimated $1.4 billion with roughly $600 million of his net worth tied up in his 90% stake in the Charlotte Hornets. Jordan took control of the Hornets with $25 million in cash while absorbing $150 million in debt and agreeing to fund losses. Control of the Panthers will require a much bigger check."
Next: Three trades the Charlotte Hornets must make
If MJ were to buy the Panthers, he would become the NFL first African-American majority owner. The only problem is that the Panthers could be worth as much as $2.3 billion and Jordan is only worth about $1.7 billion. Although it would be interesting to see Michael own both Charlotte’s football and basketball teams, it is unlikely unless he partners with a group of buyers.
