The Charlotte Hornets’ G-League affiliate has completed a three-team trade with Archie Goodwin being moved to the Northern Arizona Suns.

The Greensboro Swarm have announced the completion of a three-team trade involving the Northern Arizona Suns and the Erie BayHawks. Archie Goodwin was shipped out while the Charlotte Hornets‘ G-League affiliate acquired Roscoe Smith in return. The trade also included multiple G-League draft picks being moved.

Greensboro sent Archie Goodwin to the Suns while also sending their 2018 first round pick to the BayHawks. The Swarm received Northern Arizona’s first and second round picks in 2018 as well as Smith from Erie.

Roscoe Smith is a 26-year old forward who has spent time in the NBA G-League with the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the Delaware 87ers and the Erie BayHawks. He was a G-League all-star in 2015 as well as being named to the G-League All-Rookie Third Team.

More from Swarm and Sting

It’s worth noting that Smith was played at UCONN with Kemba Walker in 2010-11. At the time, Roscoe was a Freshman and helped the team win a National Championship.

After going undrafted in 2014, Smith jumped around a bit from the G-League to Israel to Greece and finally back to the G-League in 2016. He actually played with the Los Angeles Lakers‘ summer league team in 2014 and signed with the team but was waived before the start of the regular season.

In 14 games with Erie this season, Roscoe is averaging 13.9 points per game and 4.9 rebounds while shooting 53.9% from the field, 28% from three and 75% from the free throw line.

Greensboro’s losing a pretty important player in Archie Goodwin as he was their leading scorer (not including assignees) at 17.6 points per game. He only played in 10 games with the team this year as they only added him to their roster in December.

Even though the Swarm sits near the bottom of the Eastern Conference in the standings this season, moving their first round pick for next year isn’t that big of a deal because the one they received from the Suns should land close to their original pick as both teams have similar records. The second round pick is also an additional piece that should help the team going forward.

We’ll see if Roscoe Smith can make an immediate impact with the Greensboro Swarm and help the team turn things around going forward. The most intriguing part of this three-team trade is that Archie Goodwin is re-joining the organization (Phoenix Suns) that acquired his rights on draft night and who spent three seasons with before being cut in 2016.
