Who Got in Over Him? Al Horford as a Wild Card
As always in the East, the point guard battle was extremely tight. Kemba had to compete with Isaiah Thomas and Kyle Lowry for those guard spots and each was a little better than him that year.
Generally, the last two spots are designated for players of any position that is the most deserving. Al Horford got one of those last spots, but Kemba was just as good if not better.
Horford averaged about five fewer points and two fewer assists while averaging three more rebounds. In this case, it wasn’t just about stats. Horford had made the ASG the season before on that 60 win Hawks team. His numbers were about the same as that season.
Kemba, on the other hand, improved an incredible amount and led the Hornets to their best record since 2000. The season wasn’t over with yet, but Kemba was much more valuable to his team and their improvement.
