There’s an asterisk beside this one for a big reason, Mourning was a rookie at the time. He put up numbers that were much better in the three biggest aspects of the game you’d expect from a PF/C.  

As we all know though, there’s kind of always been an unwritten rule that rookies don’t really make it their first year. Including Mourning’s rookie season, there have only been six guys to do so since then.  

A great recent example of a rookie being snubbed is Karl-Anthony Towns in his rookie season. The same happened to Mourning in this situation. Luckily for him, he made the ASG the four following seasons after that.
