Charlotte Hornets blown out by the Brooklyn Nets at home, 125-111

Despite 21 points from Kemba Walker and 19 points from Dwight Howard, the Charlotte Hornets couldn’t take down the Brooklyn Nets.

The Charlotte Hornets (28-38) were defeated by the Brooklyn Nets (21-45) as they dropped their fifth consecutive game. Charlotte failed to slow down Allen Crabbe who scored a game-high 29 points in this one. Malik Monk was one of the Hornets only bright spots as he scored 13 points off of the bench in 21 minutes.

Michael Carter-Williams missed his second straight game with a left shoulder injury. Marcus Paige, who was called up from the Greensboro Swarm, was inactive for the second game in a row. Every Hornets player who was active got playing time in this one.

Game Story

The Nets led for the majority of the game and even pushed their lead to as much as 21 points in the fourth quarter. The Hornets were down 110-102 with 7:09 left in the final period when Brooklyn went on a 13-0 run over the next two minutes and 21 seconds. Charlotte’s poor outside shooting was a major reason why they were blown out as they shot only 21.1% (4-19) from deep.

Player of the Game:

Kemba Walker finished the game with a team-high 21 points to go along with six assists. Despite being a -21 in +/-, the all-star point guard was effective in this one shooting 7-11 from the field, 3-3 from beyond the arc and 4-4 from the free throw line. It was his 42nd game with at least 20 points so far this season.

Dwight Howard added 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocks on the night. Jeremy Lamb scored 15 points to lead Charlotte’s second unit while Cody Zeller had 13 points off of the bench. Malik Monk put up 13 points on 6-14 shooting with five assists in this one. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist rounded out the Hornets’ double-digit scorers with 10 points.

The Nets were led by Allen Crabbe who had 29 points and eight boards. Caris LeVert had 22 points and eight assists off of Brooklyn’s bench while Rondae Hollis-Jefferson recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. DeMarre Carroll (15), Jarrett Allen (13) and Joe Harris (11) all scored in double-figures.

With the loss, Charlotte falls to 1-1 on the season versus Brooklyn. The Hornets have now lost two of their last five games against the Nets. They will meet once more this year on March 21st at the Barclays Center.

In their next outing, the Hornets will host the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, March 10 in the last game of their three-game homestand. It will be the second and final meeting of the season between the two sides. Steve Clifford’s side will look to put an end to their five-game skid against one of the worst teams in the NBA.
