Buzz City Beat is Swarm and Sting’s one stop for the latest news and stories from around the web about the Charlotte Hornets.

The Toronto Raptors have reportedly fired Coach of the Year Dwayne Casey. (BasketballInsiders.com) In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we take a closer look at Admiral Schofield who the Charlotte Hornets plan to workout, James Borrego’s press conference and Willy Hernangomez being unsure if he’ll play for Spain this summer.

Hornets to workout Admiral Schofield (Twitter/ @GrantRamey)

"Rick Barnes says Admiral Schofield has had three workouts with NBA teams: Brooklyn, Milwaukee, OKC. Sounds like Charlotte is next."

Schofield averaged 13.9 points per game, 6.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists for the Tennessee Volunteers during his junior year. He declared for the NBA Draft this summer but did not hire an agent meaning that he can return to school for the next season if he withdraws his name by May 30th. He’s already met with three teams and Charlotte will be his fourth.

The 6’5 small forward may have to transition to the two-guard once making the move to the NBA because of his size even though he’s played both forward positions while with the Vols. It will be interesting to see who the Hornets workout alongside Admiral, if anyone. He will most likely be a mid to late second round pick this year.

Takeaways from James Borrego’s press conference (Twitter/ @SteveReedAP)

"Mitch Kupchuck says “there is no plan to blow up this team.” So the strategy is to develop the players the Hornets have on this roster. Borrego said he plans to develop younger players like Malik Monk and Dwayne Bacon."

JB put the emphasis on player development. James wants to focus on the potential of young players and maximize veterans like Gregg Popovich has with the San Antonio Spurs. Borrego also added that he wants to the Hornets to be a fast-paced team. He had nothing but positive things to say about Kemba Walker, Nicolas Batum and Dwight Howard as well.

Kupchak’s comments make their direction clear. Charlotte is planning to be relevant in the Eastern Conference next season and is aiming to be back in the playoffs. It sounds like they won’t be looking to trade Kemba Walker this summer and they will keep the same core of players for next year. It’s worth noting that Mitch said that the Hornets interviewed about 10 candidates for the head coaching job.

Hernangomez unsure if he’ll play for Spain (EuroSport.com)

"Willy Hernangomez – “La decisión depende del club, porque juego para ellos y con ellos tengo contrato. Si fuera por mi estaría cada año en las ventanas y en cualquier competición, pero al final no puedo elegir”"

Willy is unsure if he’ll play in the Spanish National Team’s games against Slovenia and Belarus on June 25th and July 1st this summer. He says that it is up to his club (the Charlotte Hornets) on whether or not he plays. The 23-year old said that he will have to talk to his coach and franchise once being called up by Spain this offseason.

Hernangomez wants to play for Spain this summer but it sounds like it will be up to the Hornets on if he participates in games with his national team. He’s won two gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals with Spain since 2011. He added that if it were up to him, he would play for his national team every year.
