Ray Spalding, PF, University of Louisville

Uh oh, another Louisville product for the Charlotte Hornets to potentially select. Ray Spalding is an athletic, 6’10” power forward who will make his killing playing above the rim. Apparent from the highlight video above, Spalding shows impressive versatility on both ends of the floor.

The shot is not quite as polished as the video makes it out to be, but it is certainly not broken. Spalding shot just 19 three’s in his junior season, converting on just 26% of them.

However, Spalding is a great player in many other areas. He was the epitome of a swiss-army knife for the Cardinals, averaging 12.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.7 blocks. Something of note: 3.1 of the 8.7 rebounds were offensive rebounds, which would make him a top 5 offensive rebounder in the NBA.

Ray Spalding certainly has the athletic ability to be a rotational player in the NBA. Ultimately, the NBA combine and team workouts will be a determining factor in his second-round draft stock.
