Charlotte Hornets to work out Boise State point guard Lexus Williams

The Charlotte Hornets are reportedly set to bring in Boise State Broncos’ point guard Lexus Williams for a pre-draft workout.

According to Alex Gold of ESPN Boise, “Former @BroncoSportsMBB guard Lexus Williams will workout for the Charlotte Hornets on Friday.” Williams played four years in college and is now looking to further his career at the NBA level. He spent three years at Valparaiso but was with the Boise State Broncos after transferring for his Senior campaign.

Lexus is projected to go undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft but could possibly sneak into the end of the second-round with strong showings in individual workouts with teams. Charlotte only has one second-round pick this year (No. 55). They are a team in need of point guard depth with Michael Carter-Williams being a free agent this summer.

Williams averaged 9.5 points per game, 2.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 0.9 steals during 2017-18. He also managed to shoot 43.1% from the field, 40.3% from deep and 87.5% from the free throw line. He put up career-best numbers across the board as he easily had his best year as a collegiate player.

The 23-year old played and started in all 32 games for the Broncos. He helped lead Boise State to a 23-9 record which was good enough for the second-best record in the Mountain West Conference. They missed out on the NCAA Tournament and were eliminated in the first round of the NIT Tournament.

Lexus ranked fourth on the team in scoring, third in assists, third in steals and third in three’s made. He played alongside potential first-round pick Chandler Hutchison.

Charlotte will also work out Tulane point guard Ray Ona Embo on the same day as Williams.

At 6’1 and 167 pounds, he has a bit of a small frame for the NBA but players smaller than him like Isaiah Thomas have made a name for themselves in the league. The most likely scenario is that he will end up going undrafted and signing with a summer league team. Still, there is a possibility that the Hornets could take him towards the end of the second round.
