Charlotte Hornets 2018-19 NBA Title odds

Vegas has released the NBA Title odds for every team including the Charlotte Hornets ahead of the 2018-19 season.

According to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, the Charlotte Hornets are 300/1 to win the 2019 NBA Championship. The odds reflect the Queen City team’s current roster. Although they are longshots to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy, their odds could change depending on the draft and free agency this summer.

The Golden State Warriors are the favorite at 5/4 while the Houston Rockets and the Philadelphia 76ers round out the top-three at 7/2. The Boston Celtics come in with the fourth best odds at 8/1 followed by the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat who are 20/1.

The reason why the Lakers and the Heat are 20/1, is because of the possibility that LeBron James signs with them this summer. He is set to be a free agent and both teams a couple of the favorites to land him. Whichever team lands LeBron will automatically become NBA Title contenders.

The Hornets are tied with the Detroit Pistons, the Brooklyn Nets, the Sacramento Kings, the Chicago Bulls and the Dallas Mavericks at 300/1. Only three teams have worse odds. The Memphis Grizzlies and the Orlando Magic come in at 500/1 while the Atlanta Hawks are dead last at 1000/1.

Even though Charlotte didn’t make the playoffs in 2017-18, their odds are lower than other teams that missed the postseason and finished with worse records like the Phoenix Suns (200/1) and the New York Knicks (100/1).

If the Hornets trade Kemba Walker this offseason, their NBA Title odds will significantly get worse but if they decide to keep their all-star point guard, add an immediate impact player through the draft and a couple role players through free agency, their odds may get significantly better.

Last year, Charlotte opened at 300/1 odds as well but after the offseason, their odds improved to 100/1. (ESPN.com)

An interesting note is that the Cleveland Cavaliers only have 30/1 odds despite being in the NBA Finals this year and in each of the past four seasons.

If you’re feeling lucky, putting down some change on the Charlotte Hornets could result in a pretty good return. It will be interesting to see how much their odds change before the regular season begins. Having never made the NBA Finals, it makes sense as to why their odds are where they are heading into next season.
