Continuing their pre-draft workouts, the Charlotte Hornets will reportedly bring in Notre Dame point guard Matt Farrell.

According to Josh Newman of the Asbury Park Press, Matt Farrell with meet with the Charlotte Hornets for a pre-draft workout. It is set to take place sometime next week. The Notre Dame guard has already worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers, the Denver Nuggets, the Brooklyn Nets and the Detroit Pistons.

He is also set to workout for the Chicago Bulls before the 2018 NBA Draft. Farrell is projected to either be a late second-round pick or go undrafted this year. Matt had an impressive college career and was one of 50 players named to the preseason Wooden Award list for 2017-18.

The New Jersey native played four years at Notre Dame and appeared in over 100 games for the Fighting Irish. During his Senior year he averaged, 16.3 points per game, 5.5 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals while shooting 41% from the field, 37.7% from three and 81.6% from the free throw line. In his final year of college, Matt averaged career-highs across the board.

Farrell was second on the team in scoring, first in assists, first in three’s made and fourth in steals. He helped lead Notre Dame to a 21-15 record with a second-round finish in the NIT. The 22-year old also finished second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in three’s made, third in three-point percentage and fourth in assists per game.

Matt is a good outside shooting and has the ability to spread the floor. He is a pure point guard and at 6’1 and 178 pounds, he has decent size for an NBA point guard. Farrell still needs to improve his inside scoring and defense. He also doesn’t have elite athleticism or speed. Still, his shooting and playmaking skills make him an intriguing prospect. While he could be a late second-round pick, the more likely scenario is that he goes undrafted. Even if Farrell isn’t picked int he draft, a team could very well add him to their summer league squad.

Although he may never be a star at the next level, Matt could be a solid role player or an emergency/third string point guard option for NBA teams.
