Charlotte Hornets to work out Antonio Davis’ son, A.J. Davis
The Charlotte Hornets are scheduled to bring in former UCF forward A.J. Davis for a pre-draft workout.
According to IndyStar.com, A.J. Davis has a workout scheduled with the Charlotte Hornets before the draft. The former UCF player has also worked out for the Orlando Magic, the Chicago Bulls, the Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers. He is looking to improve his stock ahead of the 2018 NBA Draft.
A.J. is the son of former NBA player Antonio Davis. Antonio played in the league for 13 years from 1993-2006. He was named to one all-star team, played in over 900 career games and scored over 9,000 points. The now 49-year-old was selected in the second-round of the 1990 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers.
Antonio played for four different NBA teams including the Pacers, the Toronto Raptors, the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks. He made a name for himself in the league as a role player who could play both power forward and center. Now, his son is looking to leave his own mark on the NBA.

As for A.J., he played four years of college basketball spending only one year at Tennessee and three years at the University of Central Florida. During his Senior campaign with UCF, Davis averaged 12.2 points per game, 7.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 33 minutes. He also started in all 31 games that he played in and managed to shoot 43.6% from the field, 33% from three and 68.9% from the free throw line.
Davis was second on the Knights’ in scoring, first in rebounds, third in assists and second in three’s made. Looking at the entire American Athletic Conference, A.J. ranked second in defensive rebounds, fourth in total rebounds and seventh in offensive rebounds.
A.J. measures in at 6’9 and 215 pounds. He is a good rebounder but still has other areas to improve on going forward. He is a versatile player who can play multiple positions. Although he could be drafted late in the second-round this year, the most likely scenario is that he goes undrafted and is picked up by an NBA team for their summer league squad.

A.J. probably won’t have the same level of success in the NBA that his father did but it wouldn’t hurt for the Charlotte Hornets to bring give him a chance in summer league and get a close look at Davis.
