How have the Charlotte Hornets faired over the past decade in the NBA Draft? We take a look at their picks in the last 10 years.
The Charlotte Hornets have made nine draft selections in the past 10 years. While Kemba Walker is the only one that has turned into an all-star, the Queen City team has picked a number of good role players and a few busts during that time.
2009: Picked Gerald Henderson at #12
Henderson at 12 was a good draft pick for Charlotte. He was at Duke for three years and kept improving himself each season. The Bobcats picked the 6’5” Shooting Guard in the lottery. Over the years Charlotte has been known for drafting busts and passing on players who become solid NBA players. There weren’t any players to go on and become stars after Henderson was picked. He gave the Bobcats/Hornets many productive seasons when he was here.
In 2015 he was traded to Portland with Noah Vonleh and the Hornets acquired Nic Batum. Henderson’s career went down after this trade. He is now out of the league. Then, with the 40th overall pick, Derrick Brown from Xavier was drafted. He had a very short career and didn’t do well in Charlotte. The next two picks were Jodie Meeks and Patrick Beverly. Later, Danny Green was selected as well.
Charlotte’s last pick was the 54th overall which was Robert Vaden. He never played in the NBA. The next selection went on to be Patty Mills who is now a key player for the Spurs franchise.
