2012: Picked Michael Kidd-Gilchrist at #2

Let me get this out of the way before you start reading: We all know the Hornets had the worst winning percentage in NBA history (1.06) with a record of 7-59. You would think if a team does this bad they would get the number 1 overall pick, wouldn’t you? That didn’t happen as New Orleans won the lottery and selected one of the best prospects of all time in Anthony Davis. The second pick was Charlotte’s and they selected Michael Kidd-Gilchrist from Kentucky.

MKG was one of the best players in his draft class and had a great season at Kentucky, winning a championship with Anthony Davis. After the Bobcats’ selection, Bradley Beal went No.3, Dion Waiters at No.4, Damian Lillard with No.6, Harrison Barnes went No.7, and Andre Drummond went No.9. So, the Bobcats passed on many players who would go on to become very solid NBA players. Kidd-Gilchrist did improve his game and is now an everyday starter for Charlotte.

If you thought that had a lot of drama then get ready for this. Charlotte also had the number 31 overall pick and selected Jeff Taylor. Some people may say that a second round pick doesn’t really matter but this one did matter. Possible players that could’ve been drafted at this spot are Jae Crowder (No.34), Draymond Green (No.35), Khris Middleton (No.39), and Will Barton at (No.40). All four of these players are valuable starters to their team. Draymond Green has won three championships and Defensive Player of the Year. Jeff Taylor played only three seasons in the NBA.
