Charlotte Hornets: Draft grades for the last 10 years
2016: Picked Malachi Richardson at #22 (Traded to Sacramento)
The Hornets originally had the 22nd overall pick in the draft, but it was traded for Marco Belinelli. Charlotte just came off a 48-34 season and they were most likely looking for a veteran instead of a rookie. Richardson was likely traded so the Hornets could continue playoff basketball immediately with the addition of Belinelli.
Dejounte Murray, a member of the 2018 All-NBA Defensive team, was selected in the first round.
In the second round, Malcolm Brogdon, the 2016 Rookie of the Year, was picked. The Hornets did miss big on these players, but like I said earlier, they were most likely looking for experience.
Charlotte didn’t have a second-round pick, which may be a good thing because not many players late in the second round have become players on a roster. Belinelli only went on to play one season for Charlotte and was a very productive shooter for them.
