First impressions upon viewing Charlotte Hornets’ 2018-19 Schedule
By Noah Purser
Charlotte Hornets’ new head coach James Borrego will have to make things click faster than they have in years past. Thankfully, there hasn’t been too big of a roster turnover, so the Hornets shouldn’t have too much trouble gelling into a team that is ready to take on challenges early in the year. Also, it should be noted that the Hornets’ staff has reported on numerous occasions that players have been in the gym far earlier this year than usual.
That said, things could go downhill fast if Charlotte struggles out of the gate. The Hornets will play non-playoff teams just twice in their first eleven contests, which is not exactly ideal. And if they don’t pick up some wins over tough opponents, the Hornets will quickly be in a hole that they will have to dig themselves out of.
A lot of pressure will be put on James Borrego and the Hornets alike to ensure that things don’t go south early in the season. A big focus will be in closing out tight contests, something that the Hornets could not do very well previously. If they can win a majority of their close games this year, Charlotte should be in good shape in their quest for the playoffs.
