First impressions upon viewing Charlotte Hornets’ 2018-19 Schedule
By Noah Purser
At the end of the season, it’s very possible that we find the Charlotte Hornets stuck in the same lottery position we have the past two seasons. Barring a big step in play from Kemba Walker‘s supporting cast, the team is going to have a tough time grabbing a playoff spot from teams like the Detroit Pistons, the Miami Heat, and the Washington Wizards.
By the time March rolls around, we will likely know where the Hornets stand in terms of the playoff race. As touched on previously, the late season schedule is certainly not favorable. If Charlotte can’t beat mediocre teams in previous months, it’s doubtful they beat teams in March and April who are fighting for playoff position.
This is one of the most important seasons for the Charlotte Hornets in recent memory.
This season will have huge implications for the future of Hornets basketball. With players like Kemba Walker, Jeremy Lamb, and Frank Kaminsky hitting free agency next offseason, Charlotte will have a lot of flexibility if they decide to change the direction of the team. Failure to make the playoffs could result in a complete overhaul/rebuild while a successful trip to the postseason could mean improving the team and fighting for contention for years to come.
