1. Alonzo Mourning (Hornets ’92-’95)

Alonzo Mourning was selected second overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 1992 NBA Draft.

Mourning is statistically the best center in Hornets for many reasons, and he was the one that the Hornets let get away. Alonzo Mourning had a lot of potential in Charlotte, and if he had stayed with the team longer, he would have set unbreakable franchise records at the center position.

Alonzo was only with the team for three years; after which he rejected a contract extension, which ultimately led to him being traded to the Miami Heat. With Charlotte, he averaged 21.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks per game.

During his rookie campaign, he averaged twenty-one points and 10.3 rebounds per game. This was good enough to earn him a spot on the NBA All-Rooke First team.

As a Hornet, he was also selected to the 2014 All-Star game, the same year where the Hornets had a fifty win season! Mourning dominated while wearing the teal and pinstripes, and one can just wonder about what would have happened if he stayed?
