Losing a quality stretch-four like Marvin Williams would hurt, but landing a player like Thaddeus Young would be a significant boost to the teams defense. He doesn’t shoot in nearly as well as Marvin, but his defense is superior, and the Hornets need a defensive stopped in the starting lineup.

Young opted into the final year of his contract over the summer, which means he will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

He’s such an important piece to the Pacers, and has always been a glue guy, whether it’s in Philadelphia, Minnesota, Brooklyn or Indiana, Young is a pro’s pro, and someone who I personally think is the most underrated player of the past decade.

Indiana would be adding a stretch-four in Williams who will provide space for attackers like Victor Oladipo and Tyreke Evans. Young may not exactly be a perfect fit next to Cody Zeller, but they could make it work, and adding a player with the defensive ability that Young possesses would be huge.

Plus, he’s an effective player inside the paint. You don’t HAVE to shoot the three-ball to succeed in today’s NBA, and Young is a perfect example of that. He’s one of the most underrated players in basketball, and it’s been that way since he entered the league back in 2007.
