Buzz City Beat is Swarm and Sting’s one stop for the latest news and stories from around the internet surrounding the Charlotte Hornets.
After blowing a double-digit lead against the Detroit Pistons, the Charlotte Hornets came back in what proved to be a thriller. This had to be one of the most exciting games of the season for Hornets fans.
Kemba Walker came alive in the second half; racking up a total of thirty-one points on the night. The real story had to be Jeremy Lamb’s game-winner in the final seconds of the game. Kemba Walker finished by stating this about Lamb, during Lamb’s interview with Stephanie Ready, “That’s my son, I raised him.”
Michael Jordan smacked the Hornets’ Malik Monk upside the head for celebrating early (ChicagoTribune.com)
"Let’s say an exalted presence like Michael Jordan owns your team, and he’s sitting at the end of your bench during a game. You’d probably want to do whatever it takes to impress the boss, no?"
It was no lie that Charlotte Hornets’ owner Micahel Jordan wanted this win badly for his team. After Malik Monk ran onto the court following Lamb’s big shot, Jordan had an interesting reaction to it.
Jordan slapped Monk twice in the back of the head after the officials called the technical foul on the Hornets. Thankfully the game did end on three technical shots for the Pistons, and that they were only awarded one, or Jordan’s reaction would have been worse.
Malik Monk and Michael Jordan on Thursday, both stated that the slap was a playful “tap of endearment.”
Longtime Hornets TV personality Stephanie Ready leaving (CharlotteObserver.com)
"Ready confirmed to the Observer before Wednesday’s home game against the Detroit Pistons that this is her last week on Hornets telecasts. Her last game as part of the Fox Sports Southeast crew will be the home game against the Los Angeles Lakers Saturday."
It is sad to see Stephanie Ready leaving the Hornets after being a part of their broadcasting team for the last fourteen years. This hurts for Buzzcity, as all Hornets fans love Stephanie.
Hopefully, the Hornets can win the next two games for her, as her final game with the team will be on Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers. It is unclear where she will be next, but we all know that she will do fantastic wherever she goes! If Stephanie reads this, remember that all of Buzzcity loves you!
NBA Trade Ideas for League’s Most Desperate Buyers (BleacherReport.com)
"“Charlotte Hornets Receive: Justin HolidayChicago Bulls Receive: Frank Kaminsky, 2019 second-round pick (from Oklahoma City, via Charlotte), 2020 second-round pick (from Brooklyn or New York, via Charlotte)”"
This trade is not exactly bad for the Hornets. In this trade, they would only be giving up Frank Kaminsky, and a couple of draft picks for the Chicago Bulls‘ Justin Holiday; a guard who is averaging 12.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
I am unsure what Holliday’s role would be with the team, but since he is a veteran, I would expect him to be coming off of the bench possibly.
Holliday is a 6’6 guard, and if the team wanted to start him; the Hornets could easily slide Jeremy Lamb to small forward, and put Holliday in at shooting guard. They could also keep Lamb where he is, and move Justin Holliday to the small forward spot if they want to.
The Charlotte Hornets will look to continue their momentum with a win over the New York Knicks on Friday in Uptown at 7 p.m. EST. The Knicks are a team that Charlotte beat last Sunday, but the Hornets should not overlook them as they come to Charlotte.
