The Charlotte Hornets picked up a nice win over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night thanks to Marvin Williams’ career night from three-point range.

When Marvin Williams is spacing the floor and hitting three-point shots at an efficient rate, the Charlotte Hornets are in good shape. This was evident against the Detroit Pistons on Friday night, as Marvelous Marvin had a career-high seven three-pointers in the win.

Williams finished the game with 24 points and six rebounds on the night. All of his made shots were three-pointers and he was also a +26 in a 12 point win. He was probably the best player on the court for the Hornets.

His previous career-high in three-pointers made in a game was five.

As we have seen over the years, the three-point shot is being coveted more and more by teams around the league, including the Charlotte Hornets. Luckily for Charlotte, they have one of the more reliable stretch fours in the entire league with Marvin Williams.

He doesn’t get talked about a whole lot, but Marvin Williams has always been a solid pro. Williams is shooting over 38 percent from deep in five seasons with Charlotte. He’s evolved into a pure stretch-four over the years, and at age 32, he’s still really depended on for his shooting touch.

After a tough start to the season, Marvin has looked great recently, boosting averages of 11.3 points and 6.0 rebounds in the month of December. He’s also shooting a ridiculously good 47 percent from downtown this month.

On the season, he is now averaging 9.2 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 37 percent from three-point land. Like I said, he started the season very quietly, so his averages are slowly getting better and better.

Right now, he’s playing GREAT basketball and deserves some credit. He’s not a flashy player, but he plays his role perfectly and is a great veteran to have on the team. Williams is on a roll right now, folks.

Man, it’s just crazy seeing how much the game of basketball has evolved and how much the three-point shot is being used. When Marvin Williams entered the league, he made a combined 25 three-pointers in three seasons. In 30 games this season, he has made a total of 50 three-pointers.

We’ll see if he can keep that hot streak going when the Charlotte Hornets travel to Boston to take on the Boston Celtics on Sunday. The Hornets will come in winners of two straight, where as the Celtics are losers of three straight.
