The Charlotte Hornets’ last Christmas game was… never
NBA Basketball on Christmas is a tradition, but a tradition that the Charlotte Hornets have yet to be a part of.
With another year of Christmas day hoops beginning shortly, it will be another year where the Charlotte Hornets are watching the action from home. The Hornets are one of two teams, the other being the Memphis Grizzlies, to have never played a game on Christmas.
There’s nothing better than spending Christmas with your family members and tuning into some NBA basketball. I’m sure Charlotte Hornets fans would love to see their team in action during the special day, and maybe that will happen at some point eventually.
Right now, though, I don’t see it happening any time soon. Typically, the higher market teams have the honor of playing on Christmas. You know, the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, etc.

As a matter of fact, the New York Knicks have played more Christmas Day games than any other team in the league. They’ve played a total of 52 games on December 25th, winning 22 of those games. They take on the Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks this year.
With the Hornets being a small market team, it’s tough to get exposure. Despite having a star guard like Kemba Walker, the Hornets aren’t talked about very much. It is pretty cool that two fellow small market teams in the Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz will play against each other on Christmas day.
Good for them, they earned it and it should be an exciting match-up. Hopefully we can see more small market teams play on Christmas in the future, because at the end of the day, we just want to see good basketball regardless of markets and enjoy the Christmas cookies.
Perhaps with more success in the future, the Hornets will get some extra consideration to play a game on Christmas. Kemba Walker is a fun player to watch, and if they add more pieces around him, more people will tune in and talk about the team.
The Charlotte Hornets will be back in action on the 26th, where they travel to Brooklyn to take on the Nets. With a win, they will get over the .500 mark once again. With a loss, they will fall below .500. It’s not going to be an easy game, as the Nets have won eight of their last nine games.
It’s a game that could have playoff implications toward the end of the season.
We here at Swarm and Sting would now like to take this time to wish all of you readers a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy the day, enjoy the basketball and enjoy being with your family.
