5. (2016-2017) Charlotte Hornets
This season was very disappointing for the team. They finished with a record of 36-46, missing the playoffs after making it the year before. The team also did not have a first-round pick in the draft.
The Hornets traded their first-round round pick to the Sacramento Kings for guard Marco Bellinelli. While only being with the team for one year, he made a significant impact off of the bench.
The Hornets would also sign former Bobcat, Ramon Sessions to a deal to be the team’s backup point guard. Sessions did not have the exception year he was thought to have; averaging only 6.2 points and 2.6 assists per game.
Kemba Walker was selected to his first all-star appearance, and he led the team with 23.2 points per game. The only other player to be close to this was Nicolas Batum with 15.1 points per game. Walker would also be named to be the recipient of the NBA’s Sportsmanship award.
The Hornets would also make a trade midway through the season to receive center Miles Plumlee. This was not a good deal for the team, and they would later trade him in the offseason for a former NBA all-star.
