Sekou Doumbouya

The latest international man of mystery is Sekou Doumbouya (defending).

Early on this season, he was projected to be a high lottery pick. His stock has fallen a bit, putting him right in the range where the Hornets are projected to be picking. In fact, CBS Sports has him going 15th overall to Charlotte in their most recent mock draft.

Some things that instantly stand out when scouting Doumbouya are his length, athleticism, motor and defensive upside. He’s able to use that athletic ability to get to the basket and finish in traffic. He certainly has slashing potential.

The big weakness for him is his shooting. He’s going to have to work on that part of his game, especially because how coveted shooting is in today’s NBA. If he can develop a reliable outside shot, he’ll have a chance to be a very good two-way player.

Doumbouya is still just 18 years old, so he still has plenty of time to develop and mature. He would be an intriguing pick for the Hornets, but a pick that could seriously pay off down the road if they groom him the right way.

It would not surprise me at all if Doumbouya ends up being a lottery pick in June.
