Charlotte Hornets Round-Table: 2019 NBA Award Predictions
Sixth Man of the Year
Zachary Padmore: Lou Williams.
“Lou Williams, arguably the best sixth man of all time, is my pick to take home the award once again. This would be his third time winning the award.
He wasn’t an easy pick, considering the strong play of Domantas Sabonis, and even Lou’s teammate, Montrezl Harrell. However, with Williams averaging 20.0 points off of the bench on a playoff team in the Western Conference, I had to give it to him.”
Giovanni Spillman: Lou Williams.
“This man just will not stop being amazing off the bench. I cannot think of another player who has such success coming off the bench than Williams.
He has had a great year while averaging 20 points and 5.4 assists. Williams had the best season of his career last season which earned him this award, but he followed up last season with his second best season of his career.
Doing what he does at his age is fantastic, and there is nobody who is playing as good as him off the pine at his age.”
Elijah Edwards: Lou Williams.
“It’s looking like Lou Williams will win his second consecutive 6MOY award and his third overall, which I believe would tie him with Jamal Crawford for most all-time.
Off the bench, the 6’1″ guard is averaging 20 points and over 5 assists per game, helping lead the Los Angeles Clippers to another playoff berth.
He’s also shooting 43 percent from the field, including 36 percent from three. If not, Jordan Clarkson would be my next candidate, but his numbers are pretty much lower than William’s across the board and he’s playing for one of the worst teams in the NBA.”
Daniel Abee: Lou Williams.
“Lou Williams was the best player on the Clippers throughout most of the season in L.A. He’s the only player in the league to lead his team in scoring while coming off the bench, which is not only highly impressive, but isn’t something you typically see nowadays.
The Clippers were expected to be in a rebuilding year and even dealt away one of their best players, Tobias Harris, at the trade deadline. That didn’t stop the ageless Sweet Lou from guiding the Clips to an unexpected postseason birth.”
