4. Kemba’s 60-point effort
Only two players in the NBA scored 60+ points in a game this season, James Harden, who did it twice, and Charlotte Hornets star Kemba Walker.
On November 17th 2018, the Hornets lost a heartbreaker to the 76ers, but Walker certainly did his part, scoring a career-high 60 points in the loss. He shot 21-34 from the field and added seven rebounds as well.
Walker was hitting big shot after big shot, and even gave us a Michael Jordan shrug after banking in a ridiculous three-point attempt late in the game. He was sensational, but Jimmy Butler, who was early into his stint as a Sixer, had the last laugh.
Butler blocked Walker’s layup attempt on one end, and hit the game-winning three-pointer on the other end to give the 76ers the win.
Despite the loss, it was a historic performance from Walker and it was a scoring mark that I don’t see any Hornets player breaking any time soon. Scoring 60 points in a loss had to be a tough feeling for Walker, but still, it was special.
I would hate to see Walker sign elsewhere in free agency, but performances like this have given him the right to play wherever he wants. He’s the best player in Charlotte Hornets history, and this was one of the best games he’s ever played.
