The Charlotte Hornets have a lot of talent that they can choose from in this year’s draft. Is the team considering Bol Bol?
In less than three months, the Charlotte Hornets will be making their lottery selection in the NBA Draft. There is a lot of talent that they can select from, and they will have the chance to draft a great prospect.
In this upcoming draft, the Hornets could look to draft Bol Bol with their first-round lottery pick. Bol Bol is the son of Manute Bol, and he possesses many talents for someone who plays the center position.
About Bol Bol
Height: 7’2
Weight: 235 pounds
Wingspan: 7′8
2018-19 Stats: 21 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, 52% from three, and averaged 29.8 minutes per game.
Strengths:
- Bol has excellent size and athleticism at the center position.
- Finishes well in the post around the rim.
- Possesses a great outside shot.
- Shuts down the paint on the defensive end with his excellent shot-blocking.
- Possesses nice speed when running the court in fast-break.
Weaknesses:
- Lacks true strength in the post.
- Forces passes at times, which leads to easy turnovers.
- His lack of muscular weight and size makes him more susceptible to injury.
Bol Bol was a player who was at the top of lottery mock-drafts to begin the season, but his draft stocks fell after he sustained a season-ending foot injury. He finished the season by starting in all nine games that he played in.
In the nine games that he played in, he led his team to a record of 6-3 to begin the season. In all of those games, he led his teams in rebounds, and he managed to rack up a season-high in points against Texas Southern with thirty-two.
Bol proved that he could be a top player in this year’s draft, but what may worry GMs is the fact that he only played nine games. Of course, he will probably still be drafted in the lottery, but it will depend on how he does during the combine and individual workouts.
Bol would fit in nicely with the Charlotte Hornets, as they may be looking to make an addition to their center position. During the season’s exit interviews, Coach Borrego stated that the Hornets’ greatest area of need is probably defense at the rim.
Bol’s height makes him a great rebounder and it is another reason why he is such a great shot-blocker. This statement by Borrego could easily be solved if the Hornets choose to select Bol in the draft.
If the Hornets would like to improve their perimeter shooting, Bol is also their guy that could help solve that issue. Being 7’2 and shooting 52% from beyond the arc is impressive for a college prospect.
His height also makes him a threat on the perimeter, and it could pose as an advantage from beyond the arc if he is matched up against a player much shorter. If Bol played for the entire college season, he could have easily averaged way better numbers.
Being in the NBA could help him progress at an alarming rate, and coaches would be lucky to have a player who possesses his skill set. I expect his draft stock to start rising again in the coming months.
The NBA has turned into a three-point shooting league, and Bol could be the answer for many teams at the center position. It will be exciting to see where he ends up in three months.
