The Charlotte Hornets are hoping that they can somehow score a higher pick in the lottery this year; the Hornets received the 11th pick in last year’s draft.

In this year’s draft, the Charlotte Hornets are hoping that they can get a better draft spot than they got last season. During last year’s draft, the Hornets received the 11th spot in the lottery.

The order of the lottery picks will be announced on May 14, 2019, during a broadcast on ESPN. The teams that will be participating in the lottery draft will be the fourteen teams that did not make the playoffs (some picks could belong to playoff teams).

Last season, the winner of the lottery draft was the Phoenix Suns and they would go on to draft Deandre Ayton with their #1 overall pick. Ayton proved to be a great asset for the Suns during this past season.

It’s usually rare for a player who is projected to fall in the bottom half of the lottery to have a chance at getting the #1 pick. The only teams who have the highest odds are the top three projected teams, who all have a reasonable chance on getting the pick.

The Hornets are currently projected to receive the 12th overall pick after the tiebreakers. If this position holds up, the Hornets would have a 1% chance of getting the #1 pick in the draft.

Here are my predictions for this year’s upcoming lottery draft:

  1. New York Knicks
  2. Phoenix Suns
  3. Cleveland Cavaliers
  4. Chicago Bulls
  5. Washington Wizards
  6. Atlanta Hawks
  7. New Orleans Pelicans
  8. Memphis Grizzlies
  9. Atlanta Hawks (via Dallas)
  10. Minnesota Timberwolves
  11. Los Angeles Lakers
  12. Charlotte Hornets
  13. Miami Heat
  14. Boston Celtics (via Sacramento)

For the Hornets to even have a chance at getting the #1 overall pick, they would almost need a miracle to happen. The team has only had one #1 overall pick in the past, and that pick was used to take Larry Johnson.

During this year’s draft, it should be important to note that there is some great talent that any team can select. Of course, whoever gets the number one pick, will most likely be taking Zion Williamson.

The Hornets have been in the same projected spot in the lottery for the past three seasons and where they end up will be no surprise for fans. Other teams will have a higher chance due to their record.

The top three that I chose could easily change, as each team has a high chance of obtaining the number one pick. Despite all of the teams having a high chance to get the first pick, it would only make sense to think the Knicks would get it, due to their terrible record.

The Hornets have under two months until they will be making a selection in the 2019 NBA draft. Mitch Kupchak will be finding out his pick later this month, and after this, he needs to get to work on finding a successful pick for Charlotte.
