Marvin Williams was a consistent force for all of the 2018-19 season, much like he has been during the entirety of his tenure with the Charlotte Hornets.

He may not be the most popular player on the Charlotte Hornets, but Marvin Williams certainly gets the job done. He showed once again during the 2018-19 season that he can be relied upon for three-point shooting and leadership.

While the Hornets missed out on a playoff birth, Williams can be satisfied with his personal play, as it was another productive season for him. It’s hard to believe he’s already played five years in Charlotte.

Williams averaged 10.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists for the Hornets this season, while shooting 37 percent from deep. His three-point shooting percentage may have been down from the previous season, but he made 140 triples, which is the most he’s had in a season since 2015-16.

I’m sure fans would like more from the man that I like to call “Marvelous Marvin”, but at 32 years old, you sort of know what you’re going to get from Williams. He stretches the floor, hits three-point shots and plays very good defense.

Outside of Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb, Williams was easily one of the best and most consistent players on the team this season. He injured his foot and missed the final five games of the season, but outside of that, he was relatively healthy as well.

Williams scored a season-high 30 points in a win against the Wizards on March 8th. He made seven three-pointers and was on fire all night long. He also had a 27 point game in Atlanta on February 9th.

Marvin deserves credit for how he performed this season. He was steady on the court, a leader on and off the court, and is always a true professional. With all of that being said, let’s grade his 2018-19 campaign.

This is a fair grade for Marvin. During his exit interview, he confirmed that he intends on picking up his player option and returning to the Charlotte Hornets for the 2019-20 season. He hasn’t officially exercised that option, but you can expect him back in teal next season.

The Hornets have gotten some poor play out of some players making a lot of money, but Williams is one player that plays up to his contract. $15 million for a player like Williams is not bad at all.

It will be interesting to see if Williams becomes trade bait over the summer. Charlotte will certainly be looking to trade and free up some cap space going into free agency, and expiring deals are always attractive bait.

A stretch four like Williams could certainly draw interest on the open market. However, keeping him on the team and letting him play out his contract is a strong option. Like I mentioned earlier, you know what you’re going to get from him, and that’s key.

This was another strong season from Williams. From playing college basketball at North Carolina, to playing five years with the Charlotte Hornets, Williams seems to be right at home and enjoying his basketball at the moment.
