Charlotte Hornets Round-Table: 7 questions regarding Kemba Walker’s free agency
By De White
What would it cost to lose Kemba?
Zachary: If the Hornets lose Walker, it may cost them a lot of viewers. The fan base will be pretty upset if Walker goes elsewhere, which is understandable. The thing is, I don’t see them being upset with Kemba, I see them being upset with the franchise for not being able to build a winning team around the beloved superstar. Already playing in a small market, it will be even tougher to grab the attention of fans around the league.
Caleb: Losing Kemba Walker would cost the fans more years of headache. They could say they are rebuilding, but we have all heard that before. It would cost agony to see the All-Star play for someone else and succeed. Let’s face it, without Kemba Walker, the Charlotte Hornets are useless.
Elijah: In terms of morale, it would be a punch to the gut for many fans and I think the more fair-weather fans would give up on the team until they could somehow start contending for the playoffs on a consistent basis. The more die-hard fans would stick around, but the next couple of seasons would definitely be rough.
Filippo: It would cost a lot in terms of support I think. Fans could be upset if the team decides to not negotiate with Kemba. But if it is his decision to leave, we would just agree with him. He is a great player, as we all know, and we would lose our guide on the court. The roster without him would be pointless, right now he is our whole team.
Vincent: Honestly, it would cost everything that Charlotte has worked on these past seasons since Walker was drafted. If Charlotte loses Walker, they will be losing their best player in franchise history, as well as the face of the Hornets’ organization. A majority of the fanbase would be sickened by the fact that Walker would not be in teal anymore, and it would destroy the trust for any future stars who play in Charlotte.
De: Easiest answer: About 50-60% of the fan base and most of the wins.
