Charlotte Hornets Round-Table: 7 questions regarding Kemba Walker’s free agency
By De White
If you could sign one realistic target in hopes to keep Kemba, who would it be?
Zachary: I don’t expect the Hornets to be very active in free agency, but they’ll have to add some more talent if they want to keep Walker in town. Re-signing Jeremy Lamb would be ideal, as he developed into the Hornets clear second best player. DeAndre Jordan is coming off an interesting season in Dallas and New York, and would be a good fit if the price is right. That is the problem, though… If the price is right… Charlotte is currently being haunted by some horrible contracts given out by former GM Rich Cho, and it has seriously hurt the teams financial ability.”
Caleb: There are many players Charlotte could use to improve the team. They seem to fail to sign the right guys but in order to keep Kemba they may have to have the best offseason ever. They need to draft a promising talent and re-sign Jeremy Lamb for starts. Lamb was key in the success last year including a few game winners. This free agency class is a strong one that includes Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson. Realistically, the Hornets should target DeAndre Jordan or Marc Gasol to fill the Center position. Someone to pick and roll with Kemba will help the Hornets persuade him to stay. Bigger talents that would be nice include Jimmy Butler or Tobias Harris. The Hornets should do anything they can to improve their starting lineup, even if that requires sign and trades. This could be the most crucial off season in Charlotte Hornets history.

Elijah: I think Tobias Harris would be an interesting and realistic choice. He’s not the best player out there, of course, but I feel like his style would compliment Kemba’s. He’s not the best outside shooter, but he can score 20 a game very easily and he’s got good rebounding numbers as well. If not him, then Nikola Vucevic would be a nice guy to have in the interior who can score and definitely snag boards. I do wonder, though, if he would fit into James Borrego’s system.
Filippo: I think that one of the best fit could be Bradley Beal, but the Wizards are not ready to give up on him. He also declared that he is good in staying in Washington. His presence near to Kemba could mean a lot, great player that showed the ability to carry the offensive load as much as Walker. They could share responsibilities in the backcourt, they also showed the ability to play off-ball, that could be a real threat.
Vincent: When it comes to signing a player, I would like for the Hornets to go after Julius Randle. The Hornets have lacked a scoring threat in their frontcourt for the past few seasons and signing a rising star would be huge. This may seem hard to do, but the Hornets could make it happen if they get rid of some of their bad contracts such as Cody Zeller, Nicolas Batum, and Bismack Biyombo.
De: There are so many guys that could help, but so little cap space. Marc Gasol, DeAndre Jordan, Nikola Mirotic is my favorite, Danny Green is another, JaMychal Green, Aron Baynes, Jeremy Lin, Hassan Whiteside. Realistically, I could see Jordan, Mirotic, JaMychal Green as potential targets, but I think Jordan is going to have to come out of his pockets and go over the cap for at least this year and maybe next year as well to improve the frontcourt.
