The Charlotte Hornets may be in the market for a veteran guard; could the Houston Rockets’ Eric Gordon be included in a trade to go to Charlotte?

As of late, the Charlotte Hornets have been interested in a few assets that the Houston Rockets are trying to trade away. There are many possible trade scenarios, but could the Rockets’ Eric Gordon be involved in a future trade to Charlotte?

Recent reports have indicated that the Hornets may be interested in Chris Paul, but this also does not mean they could go after Clint Capela and Eric Gordon instead. The Rockets are serious about opening up future cap space, and the Hornets could help them with that.

Per Basketball Insiders’ Steve Kyler, the Hornets have expressed interest in Gordon. Could a potential deal to send Gordon to Charlotte be in the making?

The Rockets are interested in freeing up cap space, while also looking into getting a lottery pick in this year’s draft. Lucky for them, the Hornets have expressed interest, and they also have the 12th pick in the draft.

Gordon falls into play because the Rockets are looking to trade away his current $14 million dollar contract that expires after the 2019-20 season. What’s good for the Hornets, is that he’s one of three possible players that they can trade for. He can also be included in a trade for someone else.

Gordon finished last season by averaging 16.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. In terms of three-point shooting, the past three seasons with Houston has been the best of his career.

Of course, in order for the Hornets to get Gordon, they will most likely need to have targets like Paul or Capela involved with the trade. The Hornets’ lottery pick is worth a lot more than just Gordon.

Lottery picks do not come cheap, and the Hornets will need to trade Nicolas Batum to Houston in order to free up cap space. There are many trade scenarios, but with a trade of this magnitude, I think Gordon would be a good fit in Charlotte.

Eric Gordon would provide a lot of depth off the Charlotte bench, and he could even be a nice insurance option in case the Hornets are not able to re-sign Jeremy Lamb. Gordon is a nice option to have on the wing, and he could help solve many of Charlotte’s offensive issues

Furthermore, Gordon’s contract is more manageable than Batum’s, and it could help in re-signing Kemba Walker. I think Walker would also like having another consistent scoring option on the team.

it’s no secret that both of the teams have been talking, but it will be interesting to see if Charlotte actually makes a trade with Houston. If a trade were to happen, I would expect it to happen before the draft.
