Charlotte Hornets Draft: Christ Koumadje has great second-round potential
After a good workout with Christ Koumadje, the Charlotte Hornets could get some defensive help in their frontcourt late in the second round of the draft.
The Charlotte Hornets currently possess two second-round picks in this year’s draft. With these two picks, they could look to use one of them on a center if they do not draft one in the first round.
If Charlotte decides to take a center late in the draft, Christ Koumadje could provide a lot of depth and potential at the center position. As a four-year college athlete, he has the mental experience that could impress many NBA coaches.
Koumadje played all four years at Flordia State, where he helped do a lot of great things with the Seminoles. One of them being ranked 3rd in the school’s all-time shooting percentage with 62%.

Koumadje is a prospect who spent all four years in college. This sometimes scares coaches and general managers away, but some teams may look to draft a player who almost has veteran experience.
On Wednesday, Koumadje worked out for the Hornets, and he was able to showcase his skills. It’s unknown to what position the Hornets are targeting, but a player of Koumadje ‘s size should not be overlooked.
Koumadje has crazy size, and as a twenty-two year old, he stands at 7’4. With this size, he is one of the tallest prospects that is entering the draft this year. One concern is his lack of playing time at Flordia State.
Koumadje only played 15.5 minutes per game in his senior year at Florida State; this limited the time that scouts could see him play. He also started in all thirty-seven games that he played in last season.
While in college, his season high in points in a game was twenty, while his season high in rebounds was twelve. While putting up these numbers, Koumadje was only able to get two double-doubles.
This prospect did not play a lot in college, and scouts did not get to see a lot of him. He has a lot of raw talent, but it’s crucial for him to work on his offensive game. His size and a developed post game would make him a scary player one day.
He also must work on his jump shot, as we scored a majority of his points from inside the paint during college. It would be interesting to see if he develops a mid-range game, but I think it’s going to be a while until we see him shooting threes.
I think Koumadje has great potential for a second round player, and I would not argue the Hornets’ decision if they take him in the second round. With two weeks until the draft, Kupchak must prepare to select the right players who can help Charlotte.
