SF/PF. player. 125. VIRGINIA. DE'ANDRE HUNTER. 8. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

I would love to give the Hawks a better three-point shooter with this pick, but I think De’Andre Hunter is too good to pass up on at this point. The combo forward will be one of the safer picks in the entire lottery, as he projects to be a starting level player wherever he ends up.

Hunter plays both sides of the floor, which teams will love about him. He’s one of the better perimeter defenders in the draft, and he can hurt you in many ways on the offensive end as well. He’s crafty in the paint, has a soft touch and can extend out to the three-point line.

He did shoot 42 percent from three-point land during his two seasons at Virginia, but he didn’t take a lot of three’s. I wonder how he will adjust to the longer NBA three-point line, but he’s got good mechanics on his shot and with repetition, he should be fine.

Hunter won a National Championship this past season with Virginia. It was the ultimate redemption after losing to the sixteenth seed UMBC last season, although, Hunter did not play in that game with a wrist injury. He averaged 15.2 points and 5.1 rebounds on the season and was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

This would be a really good pick for a Hawks team that will soon be a perennial playoff threat in the Eastern Conference.
